Country Music Legend Garth Brooks Announces ‘Priceless’ Breaking News For Nashville Musicians originally appeared on Parade.
It can be tough to be a working musician in Nashville. For every megastar like Garth Brooks, there are dozens — if not hundreds — of up-and-comers and wannabe megastars, plus studio musicians who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
But there’s a new program that Brooks put on his Instagram stories as “breaking news” and is promoting on his website called “Park & Play,” which will be “an amazing benefit for artists” in the Broadway area of Nashville. Young musicians can often incur parking fees of up to $400 per month in the area where they play their gigs. Brooks’ bar, the Friends in Low Places Honky Tonk, is located right in the heart of Lower Broadway.
Launching August 15, the “Park & Play” program offers a full year of free parking to working musicians in over 20 downtown lots — a move expected to save artists thousands of dollars annually. The list of free parking locations can be found here.

“This is such an amazing benefit for artists here on Lower Broadway,” said James Garrido of Brooks’ Friends In Low Places Honky Tonk in a statement. “Musicians are the passionate and creative force that powers the massive engine that is downtown Nashville.”
Country legend Brooks praised the initiative, highlighting how small boosts like this can be life-changing for struggling musicians.
“Every little bit helps, in this case, a big help,” said Brooks. “Look, the chances of somebody making it to their dream in this town is hard … the odds are so stacked against you. But things like this can be the difference in somebody surviving here just a bit longer to be discovered, and that is priceless.”

“Free parking for free music…so Nashville!” added Friends In Low Places’ Jenny Deathridge Bratt. “Musicians are working hard for the money, and so great for these folks to pocket their parking dollars now. It goes hand in hand with good finding good happening on Broadway.”
