Seth Rogen Says ‘Maybe’ We’ll Get ‘The Pineapple Express 2’ — But There Was Once A Trailer For It originally appeared on Parade.
Seemingly, everything is getting a reboot, revival, or sequel these days. So it stands to reason that Seth Rogen would be asked (again) whether we’ll ever get a sequel to The Pineapple Express.
After all, The Pineapple Express is the most commercially successful movie that Rogen ever made with James Franco. So, will they or won’t they do it again?
Rogen was a guest on Watch What Happens Livethis week alongside Rose Byrne and Luke McFarlane to promote their AppleTV+ series Platonic, when Rogen was asked about a possible sequel to his iconic stoner comedy.

“Maybe,” Rogen said about reprising his role as Dale Denton for the 2008 comedy. “We can probably sell it to streaming or something.”
The 43-year-old funnyman suggested there could be “big demand” for a sequel before teasing, “You never know. I don’t know. I’m not great with sequels. It’s not where my mind goes, but maybe one day.”
Rogen had a hand in writing the original Pineapple Express movie alongside longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg, and Judd Apatow produced it.
Plans for a sequel were in the works previously, but it never made it to theaters before Sony shut it down. However, Sony shared a trailer for The Pineapple Express 2. In it, Rogen returns alongside Franco’s Saul Silver as they hit up Red (Danny McBride) whom they owe a favor.
Rogen discussed what happened to The Pineapple Express 2 on The Howard Stern Show in 2020 (via Variety): “We tried to make one, and thanks to the Sony hack, you can actually find the email when Sony decided to kill the movie and not make it.”
Rogen continued, “It was something we were very open to several years ago, but Sony was not that interested in it.”
