“RIP to my friend a great chef and culinary inspiration to the wine country,” Fieri, 57, wrote alongside a photo of Ash smiling and holding a glass of wine.
The founder of John Ash & Co., 83, died on Thursday, Aug. 7, The Sonoma News-Index reported. According to the publication, his children confirmed his death from a heart condition after a brief illness.
Ash was named one of one of America’s “hot new chefs“ by Food & Wine magazine in 1985. He wrote six cookbooks during his lifetime and was regarded as the “father of Wine Country cuisine.”
In June, Fieri posted a tribute via his Instagram Stories following fellow Food Network star Anne Burrell‘s unexpected death at 55. The Worst Cooks in America star’s death was later ruled a suicide.
Fieri has experienced a tumultuous past few months, between the deaths of fellow chefs and lawsuit against him. In late June, Fieri was hit with a bold claim by a Food Network show winner, Kevin Cooper.
