Lindsay Lohan told the story behind her tattoo inspired by her role behind-the-scenes of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement
In a new interview, the actress said one of her hand tattoos is directly inspired by a lyric from one of the film’s soundtrack songs she recorded
Lohan and Diane Warren worked on the song “I Decide” for the 2004 movie starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews
There’s no one like Lindsay Lohan who fits the bill for Disney royalty.
In a new interview for IMDb, the actress revealed that one franchise film is so special to her that she got it inked on her body.
Chatting with Freakier Friday costars Jamie Lee Curtis, Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons, Lohan, 39, said that her hand tattoo reading, “I leave before being left, I decide,” is actually pulled from the song “I Decide” that she recorded for 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement.
“I was like, I’m just gonna get this one tattooed,” Lohan confessed and then shared that the ink is actually done in her handwriting.
“Best handwriting in the business,” replied Curtis.

Lohan then recalled how her involvement in the hit installment came to be, even amid a busy schedule taking part in another Disney universe.
“I was working with Diane Warren, and we were doing the song, and we loved it. She was like, I think I might submit it for that movie coming out. I think I was doing so much at the time because when I was recording that song, I also think I was doing Herbie: Fully Loaded. I was recording an album in my trailer on set while filming. Years later, I forgot it was in the movie and my sister’s like, your song’s in that movie.”
Lohan has collected plenty of tattoos over the years, some of them of certain phrases and others simply symbols.
When PEOPLE covered the most bold tattoos on Hollywood stars in the early aughts, we got the scoop on one of her meaningful pieces of art with a rep revealing that the “La Bella Vita” on her lower back was a tribute to her grandfather, who died in 2004.
These days, fans have been getting to see more and more of Lohan’s ink alongside her style renaissance, which has only attracted more eyes since she embarked on the Freakier Friday press tour this summer in a high-fashion wardrobe curated with a nostalgic twist.

To mark her return to the big screen, Lohan, with the help of stylist Andrew Mukamal, has rocked look after look nodding to 2003’s original Freaky Friday.
Kicking off a press tour that soon came to be a millennial’s sartorial dream come true, Lohan paid homage to her rockstar persona with a nearly $5,000 crystal-embellished microphone clutch by Judith Leiber. The references didn’t stop there.

She followed up a tiny guitar shaped purse, again from Judith Leiber, and then a gold handheld Aquazzura bag in the shape of a fortune cookie.
Lohan even took her return to the spotlight as an opportunity to go back even further in her filmography. For press in New York City this past July, she stepped out in two looks directly inspired by her twin personas in The Parent Trap, 27 years after the film’s debut.
Playing dress-up for big premieres comes naturally to Lohan, who in October 2024, told PEOPLE how she approaches her personal style.
“Fashion’s always been a big part of my life. I’m a fashionista. I love fashion. I love what goes into it. I love learning about the designers and why they make the collections they make,” she shared.
