Brad Pitt’s ‘F1: The Movie’ Becomes the Summer’s Biggest Box Office Shock originally appeared on Parade.

Brad Pitt and company certainly have more to celebrate with F1: The Movie after Apple continued its foray into theatrical films this summer.

The acclaimed Formula One movie, which officially hit theaters on June 27, is enjoying continued success at the box office after crossing $560 million globally this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

DC Studios’ recent summer release Superman, meanwhile, has grossed $565.52 million to date at the global box office — meaning F1 is coming pretty close.

Over the Aug. 1-3 weekend, F1 surpassed the $540.4 million earned by World War Z (2013) to become the top-grossing film of Pitt’s career in a leading role, THR reported.

“Apple, given its incredibly large tech footprint, cultural branding resonance and tremendous financial resources, is the perfect partner for creatives and studios looking to replicate the home run that is F1: The Movie,” said Comscore chief box office analyst Paul Dergerabedian via THR.

F1, which also stars Academy Award-nominee Kerry Condon and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem, is doing so well that Apple has reportedly stuck with a traditional theatrical window, rather than bringing the immersive film quickly to Apple TV+, as THR noted.

Plus, IMAX is rereleasing the high-octane film on select screens over the Aug. 8-10 weekend before expanding into additional theaters on Aug. 15. The moves make sense, as the action drama is IMAX’s highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025, with more than $85 million in ticket sales, THR reports.

Amid the ongoing success of F1, Pitt, 61, was recently spotted looking nearly unrecognizable in Los Angeles while filming scenes for his upcoming sequel to Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). Reportedly titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, Pitt will return as the eponymous stuntman, a role that earned the longtime actor and film producer an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

While the original Booth movie was written and directed by Tarantino, the renowned filmmaker has handed off directorial duties to David Fincher for the follow-up. It is unknown if Leonardo DiCaprio will return as Rick Dalton in the upcoming film, which is set to premiere on Netflix on a date that is yet to be announced.
