The Superstore family is mourning the loss of one of their own.
Jon Miyahara, best known for playing Brett on the workplace sitcom about employees of a fictional store named Cloud 9, has died. He was 83.
According to Miyahara’s IMDb page, he appeared in 105 episodes of Superstore‘s 113 episodes during its six-season run on NBC between 2015 and 2021.

News of Miyahara’s death was first shared by his Superstore costar Colton Dunn, who played Garrett, in a heartfelt Instagram tribute.
“John Miyahara aka Brett from superstore has sadly passed away,” Dunn wrote in a post dated Wednesday, Aug. 6. “John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team.”
“It was an honor to know him and work with him,” Dunn continued. “I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John.”
Miyahara’s fellow Superstore castmates remembered him in the comments section of Dunn’s post.
Kelly Stables, who played Kelly, wrote, “Oh man! He was always so sweet! Rest in peace.”
“What an incredible man,” Irene White, who played Carol, chimed in. Michael Bunin, who played Jeff, added, “I’m so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy.”
Sierra Teller Ornelas, a writer and producer on Superstore, wrote, “Oh no, he was literally the sweetest man. Prayers up to his family and loved ones.”
Many fans shared their fond memories of Miyahara’s character, noting that he made them laugh despite his character famously almost never speaking.

Superstore aired an episode in season 3 titled “Brett’s Dead,” in which Miyahara’s character is presumed dead after a tornado hits the Cloud 9 store.
The season 2 finale centered around a tornado destroying the store, when Brett utters his only line of dialogue in the series as the storm approaches. “Oh s—,” he said in the scene.
That storyline continued into the beginning of the following season. The second episode of season 3, written by Ornelas, featured the Cloud 9 employees mourning Brett after it’s believed he died in the tornado — though they’re not sure he’s actually dead.
During the episode, Brett’s co-workers dedicate a bench to him and Sandra, played by Kaliko Kauahi, performs a rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep” on a ukulele at a memorial for Brett.
In the end, it’s revealed that Brett was not dead, but had driven home to avoid the tornado.
