It’s been almost six months since the Philadelphia Eagles snuffed out the Kansas City Chiefs’ hopes at a three-peat with a dominant win in Super Bowl 59. After a long offseason of coaching changes, free agency moves and the NFL draft, they’re back on the field tonight to face the Cincinnati Bengals.
Cincinnati’s had an eventful offseason of its own. The Bengals handed out multi-year extensions to wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins and are in the midst of contentious negotiations with reigning sack champion Trey Hendrickson. Cincinnati welcomes back Al Golden to a bigger role after his stint at Notre Dame to take over as defensive coordinator.

Golden will have his first action as a defensive coordinator in the NFL tonight against the Eagles. The man he’s scheming against, Kevin Patullo, is beginning his first year as an NFL offensive coordinator with the Eagles.

Are starters playing in Eagles vs. Bengals?
Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni did not specify how long the Eagles starters would play in tonight’s game but most are expected to play at least one drive in the matchup.
Cincinnati’s Zac Taylor is making a change in 2025 and decided that the starters will play more in the preseason than they did earlier in his tenure with the Bengals. He argued that it will better prepare the team for the season and avoid an early slump in the regular season, something that’s happened multiple times in recent years.
“Going on the road like we are Week 1. We do have a road primetime game early in the season,” Taylor explained. “So, the lights are on, you’re in a road environment. That’s great… As much as we practice it and do it, it’s not the same feel. So, I think just those 11 guys being in the huddle on both sides of the ball and all the communication that’s got to occur. It’s just a good opportunity for those guys to get some additional reps.”
