Ed Sheeran made a surprising claim during his appearance on Beta Squad’s YouTube channel.
In the video, the 34-year-old “Don’t” singer was asked to identify the professional vocalist among six singers and also took the opportunity to drop some of his knowledge about the music industry, including how musicians feel about lip-syncing during performances.
“I don’t know if a professional singer would admit to miming,” he said when one of the contestants shared that she would be open to it in order to preserve her voice. “I feel like if you are a professional singer, even if you do mime — because there are professional singers that mime, but they would never admit [it].”
When asked if he’s ever lip-synced during any of his performances, Sheeran shared that he hadn’t and elaborated that he “can’t get away with it because it’s me with a loop pedal and a guitar.”
“I would never cancel a show for my voice. I’d always push through,” he continued. “Even if it was slightly raspy.”

Sheeran is currently in the midst of his “Mathematics” tour but most recently announced his return to the stage for his new Loop tour in 2026.
“New stage, new tricks, new set up, new songs and all the classics added in,” Sheeran wrote in his announcement on Instagram. “We kick it off in Australia and New Zealand in Jan, Feb, March 2026, which is always the best time, I can’t wait to be back.”
