Full House‘s little friends cost production big bucks.
On the latest episode of the rewatch podcast How Rude, Tanneritos!, co-hosts Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin talked about the introduction to one of the show’s beloved side characters.
The episode discussed the beloved sitcom’s 100th episode, “The Legend of Ranger Joe.” The episode marked the introduction to Joey’s time as a children’s TV show personality called “Ranger Joe.” It’s also the first time viewers meet his puppet sidekick, Mr. Woodchuck.
“I learned this from reading Jeff’s book. This puppet cost $25,000,” Barber revealed.

“I remember hearing that after Dave’s dog ate the face off of it,” Sweetin laughed. “Twenty years later, he was like, ‘You have no idea. You don’t even know how expensive that was. You don’t even know.’ “
Sweetin, a Jim Henson fan, explained, “It was built by the Henson Muppet Monster Workshop… They have a special little Muppet fleecing that they use. I got to touch a Hanson Muppet monster creation, even then.”
In a 2016 Reddit AMA, the actor told fans that he had kept the original Mr. Woodchuck, but that he’d only lasted until Coulier’s dog, ironically named Ranger, got hold of him.
“I kept the original Mr. Woodchuck. And then my dog Ranger ate his face,” he told a fan.
When asked about the Mr. Woodchuck that appeared with him in Fuller House, Coulier said it was a gift, given to him by Jimmy Fallon. The puppet can be seen in a 2014 reunion between Bob Saget, John Stamos and Coulier on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
