The RuPaul’s Drag Race alum, 40, said “yes” to her longtime partner, Matthew Herrmann, she told Entertainment Weekly on Monday, Aug. 4. The proposal unfolded during a trip to her hometown of Erie, Pa., for a special family event.
“My longtime partner Matthew Herrmann proposed to me yesterday,” Alaska said in a statement to the outlet. “It was after my grandma’s 90th birthday celebration.”
She told EW that Herrmann is “a Los Angeles-based producer and educator.”
The outlet shared a photo of Alaska and Herrmann smiling as they both held up their hands to show off coordinating rings.

Alaska — who appeared in season 5 of Drag Race and won the All Stars season 2 crown — hinted at the engagement in a post on Instagram, sharing a photo of her left hand with a band on the ring finger.
The image was captioned simply, “💍 💍 🥰🥰.”
In the comments, a number of Drag Race stars shared congratulatory messages.

Denali wrote, “omg congrats lasky!!” and Rosé chimed in, “🥰🥰🥰 love you 🙂 congratulations to you both.”
While the newly engaged couple has kept their relationship pretty private on social media, Herrmann shared his support for Alaska in a Jan. 9 Instagram post featuring a photo of her New York Times feature about her Off-Broadway show Drag: The Musical.
“Congratulations @theonlyalaska5000,” he wrote. “I am so so proud of you.”

Prior to dating Herrmann, Alaska was in a relationship with Drag Race season 4 winner Sharon Needles, per EW. The pair split in 2013 after several years together.
In addition to her reality TV stints, Alaska’s wide-ranging professional endeavors include publishing a memoir titled My Name’s Yours, What’s Alaska? in 2021 and releasing four music albums. She also hosts the podcast Race Chaser with Drag Race season 4 alum Willam.
According to EW, Alaska auditioned several times before being cast for Drag Race‘s fifth season. She finished the show as runner-up.
