‘Shrinking’ Star Pens Heartbreaking Tribute to Beloved Family Member: ‘Trying to Fill the Crater He Left’ originally appeared on Parade.
Shrinking star Ted McGinley wrote an absolutely gut-wrenching post on Monday, August 4, about losing beloved family member Fiddy, his beautiful dog. It is especially poignant because McGinley and his wife Gigi Rice were displaced from their home in the Palisades fire earlier this year, and their pup won’t get to return.
“Just recently, I posted something about two buddies dreaming of getting back into their home after the Palisades Fire…One of us…Never will 🙁 We lost him Sat Morning. How can something so tiny be so huge. Trying to fill the crater he left us. If you know…you know. Ouch. Best friends…just not forever.”

The other post the actor is referring to is from July 3, when he posted a photo of himself with Fiddy in their backyard and wrote, “After the Palisades Fire…two buddies return to lay on the warm stones in their back yard. My Co-Mayor of the Palisades, wife Gigi Rice and I wish you a happy 4th of July. (Early). Good to dream about being home again someday.”

In the comments announcing Fiddy’s death, McGinley’s Shrinking co-star Michael Urie wrote, “Love you, Ted,” and the show’s costume designer Allyson B. Fanger wrote, “Omg TEDDDDDDD so sorry FIDDY and you will forever be together in your hearts ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ so sorry he was v special and v loved . He had a good life❤️
😇🐾🌈✨sending love 💔.”
Shrinking writer Ashley Nicole Black added, “I’m so sorry, Ted. Sending love.”
Chef Sloan Rinaldi wrote, “God bless his soul🐾🙏🏻🐾. It’s just never long enough. The most unconditional love. 🐾❤️🐾.”
And one fan added, “So sorry to see this 😢 Glad we get the time and memories w/ them, but our #furbabies always seem to go too quickly 💔.”

On January 9, McGinley and Extra host Billy Bush took a video of the devastation in the Palisades when they went together back to McGinley’s home to try to salvage his wife’s artwork. Gigi Rice is a former actress who is now a painter; according to her website, she opened a gallery with her friend Alice Hernandez-Gaona in 2014.
McGinley has starred on such iconic TV shows as Dynasty, Hope and Faith, Married With Children and most recently Shrinking. Shrinking returns later this year for its third season on AppleTV+; it co-stars Harrison Ford, Jason Segel, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams and it has added the legendary Michael J. Fox in a “major” role for the third season.
