Nintendo has warned Switch 2 owners to be cautious when playing their new consoles outdoors in the summer heat.

In a statement published by the company’s Japanese customer service social media account, Nintendo has reminded fans that the Switch 2 is meant to operate within a temperature range between five and 35 degrees.

“Recently, temperatures have been exceeding 35°C,” Nintendo wrote. “Please be cautious when using it outdoors.”

Nintendo issued the same warning for the original Switch back in July 2022, during a similar period of hot weather. Back then, the company advised users to take heed of the aging console’s intake and exhaust ports to ensure they are not blocked, as doing so may cause the Switch’s temperature to rise.

Currently, an excessive heat warning is in place within Japan for the Tokyo area, with temperatures expected to hit 37 degrees tomorrow, August 5.

“When using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in a high-temperature environment, the device’s temperature may rise,” Nintendo wrote this month. “This could potentially cause malfunctions, so please use it in a location between 5–35°C.”

In other words, if you are venturing outside, make sure to be mindful of the sun. Or just treat this as advice to stay indoors with the curtains closed in order to play more Donkey Kong Bananza. That’s what I’ve been doing.
