Two people were killed and six others injured in a mass shooting at a crowded afterparty in downtown Los Angeles early Monday, according to police.
Officers responded around 11 p.m. on Sunday after spotting someone running into a building where the party, attended by 50 to 60 people, was taking place, ABC News reported. At the time, police reportedly arrested one person for firearm possession and cleared the scene — but around 1 a.m., officers were called back after reports of gunfire at the same location. Police arrived to find eight adults with gunshot wounds, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Letisia Ruiz told ABC News. One victim remained in critical condition as of early Monday.
No suspects have been identified and the motive is still unknown, authorities said. Police told the Daily Caller that detectives are still gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
LAPD has not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random and hasn’t ruled out the possibility of multiple shooters. In response to the Caller, the department said there was “no more recent developments or anything known about the shooter.” Investigators are expected to release further information as it becomes available.
