CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten said on Friday that former Vice President Kamala Harris’ odds of becoming the Democratic presidential nominee in 2028 are currently low.

Enten, on “CNN News Central,” cited Kalshi betting market odds for 2028, which had Harris at 6% at the time of his segment. He noted that Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg all had better odds than Harris. “Hold your horses here. The chance that Kamala Harris is going to be the 2028 Democratic nominee — they don’t look too good right now, to be perfectly honest with you,” Enten said.

“Look, Gavin Newsom is the favorite at 20%, according to the betting markets. Do not sleep on Ocasio-Cortez — AOC — right up there at 15%. Buttigieg, nine. Shapiro, six,” he added. “Harris all the way down at six, basically in a tie for fourth place at this particular point. So if you have any ideas that Kamala Harris is passing up a potential gubernatorial run for 2026 in California and perhaps would be trading up for a presidential bid, the betting markets at this point, simply put, do not buy it.”

While Harris announced on Wednesday that she would not enter the race to become California’s governor, she did not rule out a 2028 presidential run. She wrote in her announcement that she was excited about working on “helping elect Democrats” nationwide and “sharing more details in the months ahead” regarding her future aspirations.

The former vice president lost all seven battleground states and the popular vote to President Donald Trump in November. When she ran for president in 2020, she only received 844 votes in the Democratic primary and secured zero delegates, according to archived election data.

She only became the nominee in 2024 after former President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed her on July 21 of that year.

Harris announced her upcoming book on Thursday, which she has already begun promoting. The book is set for release in September and is titled “107 Days” centering around her brief 2024 presidential campaign.

Political analyst Mark Halperin predicted on “The Morning Meeting” Monday that Harris would retire from politics.

“I think she’ll find it’s so hard raising money to run for president that she’s done with politics would be my guess,” he said.
