Activia Just Got a ‘Modern’ Makeover and ‘Next-Level’ New Product originally appeared on Parade.
Activia is getting a “next level” makeover from the inside out.
The iconic yogurt brand sees the increased attention “gut-healthy sodas,” prebiotics and probiotics are getting right now and wants to remind consumers who was among the first to do it.
Activia was first introduced by Danone/Dannon in France in the 1980s and later brought to the U.S. sometime in the early 2000s. In the decades since, science has made significant advancements in understanding gut health and so have the makers of Activia, which is why the company is launching “revamped recipes” and an all-new Proactive line.
The probiotic yogurt company said it’s now using about 25 percent less sugar in its Activia Probiotic Low Fat Yogurt Cups and relying on “simpler ingredients” compared to the original recipe.

As for its new Activia Proactive line, it comes backed by 20 years of science and includes 10g of complete protein per 5.3oz serving, 3g of prebiotic fiber and no added sugar or artificial sweeteners. It’s available in four flavors (Vanilla, Strawberry, Mixed Berry, and Peach Mango), with four-count multipacks now on shelves at Kroger and Publix and a nationwide rollout coming soon.
The updated recipe and new product come with a bit of a rebrand, featuring “sleek new and modern packaging” that appears to be aimed at a new generation of peopleproactive about their gut health.
“We’ve seen an organic glow-up among Gen Z and Millennials in particular, who are embracing a healthier mind-and-body approach to wellness,” Derek Neeley, vice president of Marketing, Gut Health at Danone North America, explained in a statement. “As a premier probiotic yogurt brand that has been dedicated to educating and supporting consumers for more than two decades, we’re energized by the growing awareness of gut health as a foundation for overall wellness.”
“This momentum presents a unique opportunity to reintroduce Activia—cutting through the noise and helping people feel confident amid the trending conversation around gut health,” Neeley added, noting that it’s an opportune time to connect “with a new generation discovering our brand for the first time.”
To further drive home its initiative of meeting consumers where they are, Activia is making its on-screen debut in Disney’s new Freakier Friday film, a sweet nod to its relationship with former spokesperson and Academy Award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Fans can catch the new line and Activia recipes on shelves at retailers nationwide in the coming weeks and its sweet cameo in the upcoming film, also starring Lindsay Lohan, in theaters on August 8.
