Lily Collins, Ashley Park, and the rest of the Savoir crew will be back in our Netflix rotation before we know it, since the fifth season of Emily in Paris is officially underway. Unfortunately, we’re also bidding farewell to one person who won’t be returning to the beloved show, Rupert Everett. The Italian actor (who played Sylvie’s old friend and interior designer Giorgio Barbieri) revealed that he was dropped from the show before production on the new season began.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Rupert alleged that he was “fired” from the series after a brief stint on season 4. “I was fired,” he told the publication, adding, “I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak.’”

He continued, “I waited for them to call me—but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me. Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you—but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t know why.”

Though he only appeared in one scene last season, Rupert shared that being cut from the show took a toll on his mental health when he realized he wouldn’t be reprising his role. “For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it,” he said.

It seems like Rupert might have been under the impression that he was cast in a recurring role, but a source close to the production told VF that Rupert was merely billed as a guest star whose “character’s story came to a conclusion.” Netflix declined to comment on the matter with the publication.

We’ll also be saying au revoir to another cast member who won’t be in the fifth season, Camille Razat. The actor was not included in the cast list when the show’s return was announced in April.

“After an incredible journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Emily in Paris,” Camille said of her departure on Instagram. “It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories.”

Amid reports that Camille wouldn’t be returning, showrunner Darren Star told Deadline, “I think her story kind of had a natural finish.” Fortunately, the actor has other projects in the works, including a Netflix series, Nero, and a Disney+ series, The Lost Station Girls. She’s also focusing on running her new production company, TAZAR.
