Chrissy Metz is no stranger to bringing powerful stories to TV screens, most recently starring in Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story, based on the real-life story of nurse Nichole Jolly’s heroic actions that saved 100 lives during the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California.

However, if she had her pick of a Lifetime movie about a certain moment in her life, she revealed she would focus on the struggles from her childhood.

While speaking with Courtney Tezeno, an entertainment reporter for 13WHAM ABC Rochester, the This Is Us alum made a powerful pitch involving her upbringing, envisioning it as “Probably like a coming-of-age story.”

“Being a big girl from a small town and not fitting in. I had a tumultuous childhood, so I think I never got to see girls who looked like me on TV growing up,” she further explained.

“We don’t ever get to see those women sort of at the helm of a project,” the 44-year-old added.

Metz also expressed gratitude for being able to portray Jolly in one of Lifetime’s first faith-based films, stating, “I was thrilled. I’m so excited that Lifetime not only are they faith-leaning and faith-driven movies, but there are female-driven movies, and we need more of those.”

Metz—who rose to fame playing Kate Pearson on the critically acclaimed NBC drama—has a busy year ahead of her, as she recently inked a deal to star on a new untitled Apple TV series, alongside Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, Stephen Graham, Bill Camp and Rory Culkin.

She’s also getting rave reviews for her role on Netflix’s The Hunting Wives opposite Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, Jaime Ray Newman, and Katie Lowes.
