Lindsay Lohan’s style for the Freakier Friday press rollout could be defined by one theme: references. All throughout the tour, the actor has been making if-you-know-you-know winks with the help of her stylist, Andrew Mukamal. From grown-up spins on Parent Trap costumes to red-carpet accessories that honor Lohan’s Freaky Friday character, Anna Coleman—these fits have been for the fans. Now, Lohan’s pulled out perhaps her best fashion reference yet.
While attending the sequel’s United Kingdom premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square theater in London, Lohan wore a custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress that was a reimagining of the look she wears for the final scene of 2003’s Freaky Friday.
The halter-style design was coated in square sequins, mostly in lavender, save for golden details that traced the bustier-style bodice and straps, as well as the bottom of the skirt, while popping up in a few swirly bursts along the body.
To complete the look, Lohan carried a crystal-covered Judith Leiber handbag in the shape of an electric guitar (Anna Coleman would certainly approve), while sporting tan, knotted leather sandal heels from Manolo Blahnik.
The look was clearly inspired by one Lohan wears at the end of her original blockbuster hit, when Anna attends the wedding for her mom, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), and new stepdad, Ryan (Mark Harmon).
For that scene, Lohan wore a two-piece set, sourced by the film’s costume designer, Genevieve Tyrrell, from a Beverly Hills boutique called Mandalay. It consisted of a spaghetti-strap, corset-style top with beaded lace appliqué, which was paired with a matching maxi skirt. Both of the pieces featured a delicate transparent material in fuchsia along the bottom hems, which was frayed and jagged. It was an understated, but unique wedding ensemble that suited Lohan’s edgy teen character. What better look to reimagine almost twenty years later?
