Harrison Ford Recalls Punching His Co-Star originally appeared on Parade.
Actor Harrison Ford, 83, is opening up about his decades-long career in the entertainment industry.
While speaking to Variety for a July 2025 interview, Ford noted that he played police officer Rick Deckard in the 1982 film Blade Runner and its 2017 sequel, Blade Runner 2049, which also starred Ryan Gosling. During the Variety interview, Ford shared he found “the experience of making the second Blade Runner” enjoyable. He then said he preferred filming Blade Runner 2049 over the original movie “because it wasn’t raining and it wasn’t night all the time.”
Ford also noted that he unintentionally hit Gosling, who played K, while on set for the science fiction film, directed by Denis Villeneuve.
“[We were rehearsing a fight] and we got too close and I hit him. I apologized right away. What more could I do? Can’t take back a punch. Just take it. He’s a very handsome man. He’s still very handsome,” said Ford to the publication.
Ford and Gosling discussed the punch during a joint 2017 interview on the Graham Norton Show. Ford explained he accidentally hit Gosling because of the intense lighting of the scene they were rehearsing.
“We were doing a scene in lights and flashing strobe lights and he’s walking backward. I was walking forward. The camera was hand-held. You have to make the punch look like it’s intended but I hit [him]. One out of 100 times, I hit him,” said Ford during the interview.
Gosling then suggested being hit by Ford is more powerful than a regular punch.
“A Harrison Ford punch is a different animal altogether,” said Gosling.
Ford was quick to clarify that he tried to make amends after hitting his castmate.
“I apologized. I went to his dressing room, his palatial motorhome, with a bottle of Scotch in hand. I poured him a drink. He said, ‘I’m kind of busy now.’ And I went back to my trailer with the rest of the bottle. I had the intention of leaving it, but nah. My hand hurt. I needed some medicine,” quipped the Star Wars actor.
Gosling spoke highly of the Blade Runner franchise and Ford during a 2017 interview onThe Ellen DeGeneres Show. During the interview, Gosling said he was pleased to film Blade Runner 2049 because the original movie, directed by Ridley Scott, was “about what it means to be a human being.”
“I feel very lucky to be apart of it,” said the actor.
In addition, he said that Ford was “a cool guy” and in good shape while filming the movie.
