NEED TO KNOW

  • Cameron Boyce’s mom, Libby, shared a grab of her late son’s appearance in Happy Gilmore 2 on Instagram, as well as thanking Adam Sandler for the sweet tribute

  • “Adam always finds a way to keep Cams memory alive which warms our heart,” Libby wrote in the caption

  • Sandler and Boyce first worked alongside each other in 2010’s Grown Ups, before reprising their roles as father-son duo Lenny Feder and Keithie Feder in 2013’s Grown Ups 2

Cameron Boyce’s mom is thankful that Adam Sandler continues to find a way to keep her late son’s “memory alive.”

Actor Boyce, who died suddenly at the age of 20 on July 6, 2019 after experiencing a seizure in his sleep, makes an appearance in the Sandler-led comedy Happy Gilmore 2, which arrived on Netflix on Friday, July 25.

During the scene in question, Sandler’s golfer character, Happy Gilmore, can be seen walking up toward a check-in booth with his clubs in hand. As he approaches, the person inside the booth is watching a show on a CRT television, with Boyce appearing on the screen.

The cameo appears to be from an episode of Disney Channel’s Jessie, in which Boyce played Luke Ross from 2011 to 2015.

The late star’s mom, Libby, shared a grab of an article about her son’s appearance on Instagram, writing in the caption, “Adam and Cameron talked quite a bit in the days leading up to his death. Cameron was supposed to be in [Hubie] Halloween and they were strategizing,” referencing Sandler’s 2020 comedy horror flick.

Libby continued, “They had a bond I think related to being authentic, funny and just keeping it real. Adam always finds a way to keep Cams memory alive which warms our heart.💜”

Boyce and Sandler, 58, first worked alongside each other in 2010’s Grown Ups, before reprising their roles as father-son duo Lenny Feder and Keithie Feder in 2013’s Grown Ups 2.

The Cameron Boyce Foundation — which was set up in the actor’s memory, and has continued to support causes close to him, funding research towards a cure for epilepsy — also posted a grab of Boyce’s Happy Gilmore 2 tribute on Instagram.

The post included a video of Sandler talking about Boyce at one of the non-profit organization’s events, as well as a photo of the pair in Grown Ups.

The caption read, “Thank you @adamsandler for honoring Cam’s legacy in Happy Gilmore 2⛳️ 🪽💜”

Happy Gilmore 2 isn’t the first Sandler film to feature a nod to Boyce. Halfway through the credits of 2020’s Hubie Halloween, those behind the film incorporated a photo of Boyce alongside a touching message.

“In loving memory of Cameron Boyce,” the tribute read. “Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.”
