NEED TO KNOW

  • Princess Charlotte was not included in the Court Circular update about Prince William’s appearance at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final in Switzerland

  • The moment marked Princess Charlotte’s first public appearance at a game for England’s women’s national team

  • Princess Charlotte’s attendance was a surprise, which might be the reason why her name was not in the log

Princess Charlotte joined Prince William for his latest engagement, but her name was missing from the royal family’s official record of past outings.

On July 27, Princess Charlotte, 10, tagged along with her dad to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final between England and Spain in Basel, Switzerland. The Prince of Wales appeared at the game in his role as patron of the Football Association, English soccer’s governing body, and brought Charlotte in a surprise appearance.

It was a special day out for the dad and daughter, and Princess Charlotte’s first public appearance at a game for the England women’s national team she has long cheered for with Prince William. However, her name was not included in the Court Circular recap like William’s was.

“The Prince of Wales, Patron, the Football Association, having been received at EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg by His Majesty’s Consul-General for the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein (Mr. Richard Shackleton), this evening attended the Union of European Football Associations Women’s Euro Final between England and Spain at St. Jakob-Park, Basel, Switzerland,” said the July 27 entry, which referred to William by his Prince of Wales title.

The update came from Kensington Palace, the office where William and Kate Middleton are based.

The Court Circular is the British royal family’s official record of previous royal engagements and is usually refreshed online about one day after an appearance is made.

While Princess Charlotte was by Prince William’s side throughout the thrilling Euro finals, where England beat Spain 3-1 on penalties, her name likely wasn’t listed for the simple reason that she is not considered to be a working royal.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’ only daughter might embrace that commitment one day as an adult, but for now, she and her brothers, Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7, are focused on a relatable obligation: school.

While the Court Circular is a record of previous appearances by working members of the royal family, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ names are occasionally shared there.

The children’s names were included in the entries from Buckingham Palace about the royal family’s appearances at Trooping the Colour on June 14 and events commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 5.

However, George and Charlotte’s names were not listed in the July 13 log from Kensington Palace about the Wimbledon Championships. While Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined their parents that day to see the men’s singles final of the tennis tournament, their names were not included in the Court Circular summary of the outing.

“The Prince of Wales and The Princess of Wales, Patron, All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the Lawn Tennis Association, this afternoon attended the Gentlemen’s Final of the Lawn Tennis Championships at Church Road, Wimbledon, London SW19,” that entry said, shouting out Princess Kate’s patronage of the club where Wimbledon is held.

Just like Charlotte’s soccer Sunday with William, George and Charlotte’s attendance at Wimbledon was not announced in advance, which might explain why their names were missing from the Court Circular statement.
