Shepard shares daughters Lincoln and Delta with wife Kristen Bell
Dax Shepard is explaining why his daughters are allowed to swear — sometimes.
The actor, 50, shared on a Monday, July 28, episode of his podcast Armchair Expert that he and wife Kristen Bell allow their two daughters – Delta, 10, and Lincoln, 12 — to occasionally swear. As Shepard explained why they made that choice, he also revealed that there are parameters the girls must follow.
“I fully swear in front of my kids. They are allowed to swear, not with impunity, but when it’s called for and they land it. And it’s in the house and not out at a restaurant, it’s okay,” Shepard says.
“My defense of it is, I just told the girls, like ‘Hey, these are noises that come out of your mouth and you assign what they mean to you,’ ” he continues.

Seth Meyers, who was Shepard’s podcast guest that week, shared that in his family, swearing is a no go. The late-night comedian, who shares sons Ashe, 9, and Axel, 7, as well as daughter Adelaide, 3, with wife Alexi Ashe, noted that he’s afraid his kids are going to take the language to school.
“Sometimes the kids will curse, and she’ll look at me again, like they learned it from me. And I’m like, we walked them to school in New York City,” says Meyers. “Yesterday, someone’s on the phone saying, ‘Tell them to f— around and find out.’ And then the kids are like, ‘What does that mean?’ I’m like, ‘Well.'”
“For us, it’s the fear that they’re gonna take it to school,” explains the dad of three. “Also, by the way, let’s not underestimate girls and boys. I think my daughter, 100%. You could probably trust her with it. ‘Yeah, I’m gonna tell you this word, don’t say it at school.’ The boys?”
“They’re gonna say it immediately,” adds Shepard.
Shepard and Bell, who met in 2007 and married in 2013, often share glimpses into their children’s lives and their family time over the years.
This past May, Shepard shared a cute mother-daughter photo featuring his actress wife Bell and one of their daughters in matching outfits. Both Bell and her daughter — whose face Shepard kept private — wore white T-shirts, black pants, white Converse sneakers and denim button-up shirts.
“Most twins are the same age, but mine are 35 years apart. And I love them both sooooo much. 💙💙💙💙💙,” Shepard wrote in the post’s caption.
