NEED TO KNOW

  • The Stray Cats have announced their first tour since Brian Setzer shared he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in February

  • Setzer has since released a video of himself playing guitar in April and kept fans updated on his health progress

  • The band will hit the road in October, making stops in Indianapolis and Las Vegas, among other cities

The Stray Cats are ready to rock several towns this fall.

On Monday, July 28, the rockabilly band announced their first tour since guitarist and vocalist Brian Setzer shared that he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in February.

The group, made up of Setzer, 66, bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom, will embark on a trek through North America starting in October. Fans can expect to hear “Stray Cat Strut,” “Rock This Town,” “Runaway Boys,” “(She’s) Sexy + 17” and more in their upcoming shows.

“What blows me away every time is how this music still connects — decades later, it’s just as raw, just as real. We see fans from every generation now,” Setzer said per a press release.

Rocker, 63, said, “There’s nothing like the sound we make when the three of us hit the stage — it’s high-octane rockabilly, loud and proud. We’re fired up to bring that to fans across the country again!”

“HOLY MACKEREL! The Cats are back for a very, special indoor tour,” Phantom, 64, added. “I’m thrilled and excited to be on the road in 2025 with the best Rockabilly band in the world! These are the venues where the Cats sound best and one thing I can guarantee 100%… We Will Rock Your Town!!”

Months earlier, the two-time Grammy winner announced that he was unable to play guitar due to an autoimmune disease.

“Towards the end of the last Stray Cats tour I noticed that my hands were cramping up,” Setzer told fans on Instagram in February, not specifying the exact diagnosis.

“There is no pain, but it feels like I am wearing a pair of gloves when I try to play. I have seen some progress in that I can hold a pen and tie my shoes. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I was at a point where I couldn’t even do that,” he continued.

“Luckily, I have the best hospital in the world down the block from me. It’s called the Mayo Clinic. I know I will beat this, it will just take some time,” Setzer added.

The following month, the musician told fans that he was “getting better day by day.” He said, “The progress I’m making is excellent! My dream is to visit Japan, the States, and Europe with Stray Cats, and of course, one of my biggest thrills would be bringing back the [Brian Setzer Orchestra] Christmas show tradition.”

In April, to mark his 66th birthday, Setzer shared a video of himself playing the guitar. “Man did I miss this…..,” he wrote on Instagram.

The artist presale kicked off on Tuesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. local time. Fans are able to sign up for early access here. Tickets go on general sale on Friday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. local time.
