“South Park ”creators sarcastically respond to Trump lashing out over spoof: ‘We’re terribly sorry’

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are addressing the (political) elephant in the room after the animated classic’s delayed season 27 premiere.

During a Comedy Central panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 on Thursday night, the comedy duo was asked by moderator Josh Horowitz if they’d anticipated such a strong reaction to the episode, which, in part, featured a nude fictionalized version of Donald Trump seducing Satan in bed.

“We’re terribly sorry,” Parker deadpanned, before dropping his microphone to his lap and letting a prolonged silence settle over the Hall H audience.

The premiere’s satirical depiction of the president drew swift condemnation from the White House, which blasted the “fourth-rate show” in an email statement to Entertainment Weekly earlier that same day.

“The left’s hypocrisy truly has no end — for years they have come after South Park for what they labeled as ‘offense’ content, but suddenly they are praising the show,” it read. “Just like the creators of South Park, the left has no authentic or original content.”

The statement continued, “This show hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country’s history — and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump’s hot streak.”

Speaking at the panel, Parker acknowledged that the pair did get one note from their producers about the episode. “They were like, ‘Okay, but we’re gonna blur the penis,’” he recalled, “And I’m like, ‘No you’re not gonna blur the penis.’”

Stone added that they were able to find a loophole for the issue by putting eyes on Trump’s genitals, which subsequently turned them into their own character. “If we put eyes on the penis, we won’t blur it,” he explained. “That was a whole conversation with a lot of grown-up people for about four f—ing days.”

Parker interjected, “Because then it’s a character! It had to be two eyes. I don’t know why.”

Horowitz also teased at the event that he also had a subpoena for Stone and Parker hidden under his questions, prompting the latter to simply respond, “That’s fine, man. I’m ready.”

South Park’s season 27 premiere was delayed and ultimately moved from Comedy Central to Paramount+ amid parent company Paramount’s pending merger with Skydance. The prolonged pause led Parker and Stone to issue an earlier statement criticizing the merge, which they claimed was “f—ing up South Park.”

The episode was released on the same day that Paramount announced it had inked a five-year deal with the show’s production company to license the show on Paramount+, with all 26 seasons and first-run episodes moving to the streamer instead of Comedy Central.

South Park is now streaming on Paramount+.
