Sofía Vergara is on the mend again.
The Modern Family alum shared on her Instagram account Friday that she had undergone a second knee surgery, over a year after receiving the first.
In the post, which included one photo of Vergara smiling in a hospital robe, and one of her knee with a large grey brace and bandage on it, the actress wrote, “It’s done! Round 2.” She included the prayer emoji, some hearts, and the hashtag #knee in the caption.
Vergara’s post didn’t specify what exactly the procedure was for or why she needed it, but in April 2024 she revealed on her Instagram Stories that she underwent a separate knee surgery — and was being cared for by her then-boyfriend, Justin Saliman, an orthopedic surgeon.
“If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night… ! Luv u,” the actress captioned a photo of Saliman, who was seen smiling down at her while wearing navy blue medical scrubs. (After more than a year of dating, the former couple announced in January that they had gone their separate ways.)
The following day, Vergara once again took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of a gag gift her fellow America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel gave her. The object appeared to be some kind of electric pogo stick.
Vergara has not been shy about her health battles over the years. For instance, in honor of World Cancer Day in 2022, she opened up about her thyroid cancer diagnosis at 28.

“At 28, ‘Cancer’ was not a word I expected to hear. It was just a routine checkup,” Vergara wrote on her Instagram at the time. “But the doctors found a lump in my throat, and that word became part of my story.”
“I spent countless hours in radiation treatments, and, eventually, in surgery. Today, I get to call myself a cancer survivor,” she continued.
Her post also included an old photo of her looking through a camera lens, with a scar visible on her neck. Of it, she wrote, “This was my first acting class after diagnosis and treatment, and seeing the scar on my throat reminds me of how blessed I felt that day — and every day since. I’m lucky and grateful to be in a position to share my story and say: early prevention is so important!!”
