In a follow-up post, Iman shared a look at an intimate note written by her late husband, David Bowie, that he wrote for her birthday in 2015; the rock star and icon died on Jan. 10, 2016.

“In Africa, we are taught that it’s a privilege to get old. I have never lied about my age,” she told PEOPLE in 2021.
She also explained that she doesn’t judge people who get cosmetic procedures and treatments done, but she has never been interested in getting them done on herself.

“A friend was telling me there’s been a rise in cosmetic surgery, all because [people] have been looking at themselves in Zoom meetings,” she said. “I’m like, ‘If you are worried about that, just put the camera up [so it’s tilted down on your face], for God’s sake!”
The model noted that negative feelings around aging doesn’t exist in her native Somalia. “This really is a mentality rooted in the West. For me, it has never been a problem,” she added.
