Ozzy Osbourneis dead at 76 following a battle with Parkinson’s disease—and his last interview before his death showed how much fans meant to the Prince of Darkness.

On Tuesday, July 22, the Black Sabbath singer’s family confirmed his death just weeks after a farewell concert with the heavy metal band.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” a statement made to The Sun read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

On July 5, Ozzy performed a show titled “Back to the Beginning” at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. The artist sang while seated for his last-ever concert.

During a Q&A session with Premier ahead of the highly-anticipated event, Ozzy said, “It’s my final encore; it’s my chance to say thank you to my fans for always supporting me and being there for me.”

“I couldn’t have done my final show anywhere else,” he added of the farewell show. “I had to go back to the beginning.”

Of Zakk Wylde, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Gojira and more joining Black Sabbath for the show, Ozzy said, “It means everything.”

He continued, “I am forever in their debt for showing up for me and the fans. I can’t quite put it into words, but I feel very emotional and blessed. It’s a goodbye as far as my live performances go, and what a way to go out.”
