‘Tim Wanted Me To Kill’: Alleged Killer Says Walz Plotted Assassinations

Vance Boelter, the man accused in June’s political assassinations in Minnesota, claimed in a handwritten letter that Democratic Gov. Tim Walz asked him to kill two U.S. senators.

Boelter is charged with shooting and killing both Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as a separate attack that seriously wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. (RELATED: Group Threatens Legal Action Against Tim Walz’s Affirmative Action Hiring Policy)

A letter recovered from Boelter’s abandoned car, addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel, alleged Walz solicited him to assassinate Democratic Minnesota Sens. Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, which published a full transcript of the letter.

“I will probably be dead by the time you read this letter,” Boelter reportedly wrote. “I wanted to share some info with you that you might find interesting … Tim wanted me to kill Amy Klobushar [sic] and Tina [REDACTED]. Tim wants to be a senator and he doesn’t trust [REDACTED] to retire as planned and thinks she is going to stay on at the last minute.”

Boelter wrote he refused to carry out the alleged plot and planned to expose the governor.

“Tim is probably crapping bricks right now because I’m still at large and he knows what I can do, and that I know about where all the buried skeletons are,” the alleged assassin continued. “So I will be shot on sight you can bet on that.”

Boelter claimed in the letter he was “trained by U.S. Military people off the books starting in college” and has since “been on projects … in Eastern Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Africa. All in the line of doing what I thought was right and in the best interest of the United States.”

Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph Thompson said in a press conference Tuesday that authorities recovered both firearms used in the attacks and confirmed Boelter was apprehended in a remote area after a nearly two-day manhunt. Boelter also “shot at and attempted to kill” the Hoffmans’ daughter during the assault, Thompson said. He said officers recovered both firearms allegedly used in the incident that day.

“Both John and Yvette acted with incredible bravery to put themselves between Boelter’s bullets and their daughter. Miraculously, Hope Hoffman was not shot,” he added.

In his alleged letter, Boelter insisted he avoided shooting law enforcement officers despite ample opportunity, writing, “You should notice how I didn’t fire one round at any police officers and boy did I have plenty of opportunity … Because I support the police and don’t want to see them hurt. But if they are hurting my wife + kids next time I won’t give them a pass.”

Boelter closed the letter offering to “spill all the beans” in exchange for protection for his family, writing, “I just want my family safe. They had nothing to do with this and are totally innocent. This was a one person job.”

The FBI did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller’s request for comment.
