NEED TO KNOW

  • Joshua Jackson reflects on his childhood love of Dr. Pepper and how it lingered into adulthood.

  • The actor now turns to Olipop — specifically its Dr. Pepper-inspired flavor, Dr. Goodwin — as a healthier alternative that still satisfies nostalgic cravings.

  • Jackson says his clean lifestyle evolved naturally with age and credits Olipop for letting him enjoy the flavors of his youth without the health drawbacks.

Joshua Jackson gets nostalgic and shares how he’s staying healthy when those child-like cravings come along.

During an interview with PEOPLE, the Dawson’s Creek alum recollects his childhood memories of drinking sodas after hockey practice with his friends, Dr. Pepper being his go-to choice, and how those traditions have carried into his adulthood.

“We talked about after hockey practice in the campaign, but also on set, it was getting late nights, needed a little energy,” Jackson explained. “It has deep, deep ties back into my childhood, but soda is just not good for you. And I had tried many years ago to cut soda out of my life, but always had a struggle cutting Dr. Pepper out of my life because it is my favorite soda.”

These days, Joshua is more of an Olipop man, opting for the carbonated, probiotic option that’s high on fiber and low on sugar, with functional ingredients that support your microbiome and digestive health.

Olipop even released an alternative to the classic Dr. Pepper named Dr. Goodwin, in honor of Jackson’s titular role in ABC’s Dr. Odyssey. The Dr. Goodwin flavor, as the website highlights, is a blend of rich plums, sweet prunes and zesty tart cherries with a bit of vanilla extract, which complements the enigmatic characteristics of its fictional namesake.

“And so when Olipop comes along and I’m able to get all that flavor and all that comes with it,” Jackson continued, “all of those memories and emotional attachments to this thing without any of the bad stuff, it made perfect sense.”

Jackson also gave a closer look into his healthy lifestyle, which he notes came naturally as he got older, while simply learning how to take care of himself.

“I like to eat clean and live fairly clean, and as you get older, you learn how to respond to your body,” he explains, and adds why Olipop fits well into his daily routine. “That’s one of the things that I love about Olipop is that some of the treats of my youth are no longer good ideas to be putting in my body, not the things that I want to put in my body at all.”

Of course, the desire for those flavors doesn’t disappear, so having tasty options like Olipop is perfect for a convert like Jackson. “To find something that gives you the satisfaction for the [Dr. Pepper] flavor without all of the additional bad stuff that comes with it is wonderful,” adds the star.
