Legendary ’60s Child Star’s Heartwarming Video With Lookalike Grandson Makes Fans ‘So Happy’ originally appeared on Parade.
As one of the most instantly recognizable child actors of the ’60s, Bill Mumy will always be known for his iconic roles in shows like The Twilight Zone and Lost in Space — but as longtime fans know, he’s also an accomplished musician. Not only that, but the 71-year-old star is now a grandpa…and as a recent video proved, he’s doing an excellent job of passing on his skills (and his looks) to the next generation.
Mumy took to Instagram this week to share a clip of himself with his toddler grandson, Nathan, taking turns playing the harmonica. As commenters were quick to note, the little boy is practically a carbon copy of his grandfather as a child…and the pair’s musical back-and-forth couldn’t have been sweeter.

“The most adorable!! Nathan is a mini-Bill. 😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️,” one person gushed, with a second adding, “Great playing Nathan and Bill! Nathan and Bill are the Best Duo! 😊👏👏👏”
“So cute! Nathan is a natural. Won’t be long before he joins your band,” predicted another fan, as someone else noted, “He looks just you..when you were little.”
“This makes me so happy to see,” somebody gushed.
In a 2020 interview with the Seymour Duncan blog, Mumy reflected on his musical background, explaining, “I started acting when I was five years old, but I started playing guitar when I was ten, slacker that I was!”
“And although I’ve never really thought it was difficult to work in multiple creative arenas simultaneously, music has always resonated with me on the deepest personal level more than anything else,” he said, adding, “there are several episodes of Lost in Space filmed back in the ’60s, with my character, Will Robinson, playing guitar.”
“Making music is something I do every day regardless of a paycheck,” Mumy continued. “I enjoy acting and voice over work and writing scripts or comic books or whatever it is I may be doing at the time to pay the bills, but I’d be making music regardless of whether I made money from it or not. Thankfully, I do.”
