Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Tuesday that the city filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, seeking to halt ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in the city.

Bass said these operations unfairly target individuals based on race or ethnicity, and she is calling for an immediate injunction to prevent further actions by ICE and Customs and Border Protection.

“It is critical that we use every single venue, every single possibility of seeking justice, and that’s what we’re doing today. And I do hope that the courts especially issue this injunction and stop this,” Bass said. “But one thing about our city, and I say this every time because I think it’s so important, our city is definitely united. You don’t see dissension here. You see a city that is united because this is who we are.”

“We are a city of immigrants, and we will stand with Angelenos regardless of what country they came from, when they got here or why they’re here. And, so, with that, I am proud to stand in unity as we file this lawsuit and seek justice, and hopefully that will come in the form of an injunction,” Bass said.

Bass demanded that federal agents leave the scene of an immigration raid at MacArthur Park on Monday. In a video posted by Fox 11 Los Angeles, Bass firmly stated, “They need to leave and they need to leave right now!”(RELATED: ‘That Will Get Their Attention’: Gregg Jarrett Describes Tactic To Make Sanctuary Cities Stop Harboring Illegals)

Riots erupted in June following ICE raids in Los Angeles County, prompting President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard after two days of violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement. Democrats have staged protests at ICE facilities and other federal properties in response to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement actions.

In May, Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, together with Democratic New Jersey Reps. Robert Menendez, LaMonica McIver, and Bonnie Watson Coleman, were denied entry to the Delaney Hall Detention Facility. Similarly, Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters faced denial of access to the Los Angeles Federal Building in June when she attempted to check on Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local President David Huerta, who had been detained during ICE raids.

The Trump administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
