Josh Duhamel is upgrading his Minnesota bunker!
The Ransom Canyon star, 52, revealed some of the newest additions he’s made to his secluded lakeside property — which he refers to as his “doomsday cabin” — in an interview with Realtor.com on Friday, June 20.
While it took 15 years for Duhamel to fully transform the off-grid spot into a functioning home, he still has some work to do on the outdoor spaces so his family — including wife Audra Mari and his two sons — can live there completely comfortably.
“We previously made a beach area near the lake, and now we want to create a shaded spot for my 16-month-old,” Duhamel told the outlet, referring to his and Mari’s son Shepherd. The actor also shares 11-year-old Axl with ex-wife Fergie.

“We’re setting up a cantina-type space where we can have shade, eat, and hang out,” he added. “We’ll add some lights, so we can enjoy the area in the evenings as well.”
While the latest additions are meant to make the property more enjoyable in the warmer months, Duhamel noted that he also loves spending time outside during the winter. As a Bobcat ambassador, he explained that the equipment company has all the tools he needs to maintain his property during all four seasons.
“In the winter, I have a snowblower attachment, so for the first time, we can now get out there during the winter months,” he told Realtor.com. “For the first 10 years, we couldn’t access our place in the winter. Now, we can enjoy all the fun winter activities.”

In April, Duhamel opened up to PEOPLE all about his life in Minnesota and how the quieter lifestyle has had an impact on both himself and his kids.
“I’ve become much more handy than I was before I started, and you have to be just out of necessity. You have to be able to fix stuff,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “And so all that, all around, it’s been great. Making a lot of great memories out there.”
He also detailed how his older son Axl has been loving Minnesota life.
“I love seeing it through my kids’ eyes now,” he added. “My 11-year-old Axl is really starting to love it. He’s got some buddies who are out there. I’m able to teach him some of the things that I’ve learned and I didn’t know much when I got the place, so it’s been good.”

The Shotgun Wedding star previously detailed the layout of the entire property during an April interview with Country Living.
He explained how it’s nestled on a lake located about an hour-and-a-half drive away from Fargo, N.D. He also said that the closest sign of “civilization” is located 40 minutes away.
“It’s an exhale whenever we get here,” he added of the serene spot.

When Duhamel bought the half-parcel of land 15 years ago, it was completely empty. He slowly built a rustic cabin there himself, and then expanded on the space by purchasing a second parcel equipped with a hunting shack.
Later on, he bought another parcel featuring a “cute little red cabin with a stone chimney that sits right on the water.”
