NEED TO KNOW

  • One Oklahoma mother was inspired by her 84-year-old great-grandmother-in-law after she decided to jump on the trampoline for the first time, despite her age

  • Great-grandmother Clara was excited to join her 2-year-old great-grandson in the backyard

  • Despite being separated by eight decades, the pair are seen on video laughing and smiling together on the trampoline

In a heartwarming moment that defied age and expectations, one mother from Cleveland, Okla., was delighted to see her grandmother-in-law, Clara Quimby, take her first-ever bounce on a trampoline.

The spontaneous leap came after the spirited 84-year-old woman decided to join her 2-year-old great-grandson in his birthday fun – proving that adventure has no expiration date.

“I’ve lost my own parents and grandparents, so getting to witness my husband’s parents and grandparents still experiencing life in these joyful, light-hearted ways — it’s incredibly special to me,” Mariah Quimby tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The Quimby family is deeply rooted in faith and togetherness. Mariah’s grandparents-in-law have shared 66 years of marriage, while her parents-in-law have been together for 30.

“Their love, laughter and willingness to keep trying new things — no matter their age — is what keeps our family close and thriving,” the 29-year-old, mother-of-two shares.

Growing up without trampolines and in a totally different pace of life, great-grandma Clara had a newfound desire to embrace experiences missed before.

“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized there are a lot of things I never got to try, and I want to start saying yes to more of them,” she tells PEOPLE. “This summer, I’m even planning to jump into a pool for the first time.”

The best part about the trampoline experience, however, was witnessing her great-grandson’s wide smile.

“Our family has always shared good times together, and the grandkids and great-grandkids give me that extra nudge to be brave, try new things, and just have fun,” great-grandma Clara reveals. “They bring a spark that keeps us going.”

Mariah believes Bowdie will likely reflect on these memories and appreciate the depth of his childhood — not only through experiences but through the bonds he’s built with family.

“He’s had the rare gift of growing up surrounded by four great-grandparents and three grandparents,” Mariah explains. “That kind of legacy is priceless. I hope he always knows how truly blessed he is.”
