The crowd at Munich’s Olympiapark welcomed iconic Swedish pop-rock duo Roxette, now featuring Per Gessle and Lena Philipsson, as they took the stage for the Tollwood Festival. Roxette achieved international success, particularly during the late ’80s and the ’90s, becoming one of Sweden’s most commercially successful music acts. Their breakthrough came with the 1988 album Look Sharp!, which featured global hits such as “The Look” and “Listen to Your Heart.” The momentum continued into the ’90s with the release of Joyride in 1991, their most successful album to date, selling over 11 million copies worldwide. It yielded chart-toppers like its title track and “Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave).”
The band further contributed to the sound of 90s pop with albums like Tourism (1992), largely recorded on the road, and Crash! Boom! Bang! (1994). Their songs frequently appeared on international charts, with “It Must Have Been Love” notably reaching number one in 1990 after its inclusion in the film Pretty Woman.
