Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn said on Fox Business Wednesday that Democrats missed a big opportunity to defend former President Joe Biden.
The Senate Judiciary subcommittee held a hearing Wednesday to examine claims that Biden’s aides covered up his alleged mental decline, something Biden and his staff have denied. During an appearance on “The Evening Edit,” Blackburn said the lack of Democrats at the hearing was a calculated decision driven by “a cabal behind the curtain.”
“My biggest takeaway is the Democrats did not show up,” Blackburn told host Elizabeth MacDonald. “They were not there to defend Joe Biden. They were not there to weigh in on the hearing or to ask questions. And we know the reason why is because you had so many Democrats, members of Biden’s cabinet and the media that were basically covering for him.”
Blackburn said it was clear to her and many Americans that Biden did not fully control the decisions being made.

“There was a cabal behind the curtain making all the decisions. They all knew it. And now that people are writing books, they are confirming what many of us, I know many in Tennessee and many people all across the country, could actually see happening with their very own eyes,” Blackburn said.
Alex Thompson of Axios and Jake Tapper of CNN released a book in May claiming Biden botched a closed-door, scripted town hall so badly that footage was deemed unusable for campaign purposes.
Blackburn said Americans saw Biden’s mental and physical decline and believed someone else was running the show.(RELATED: ‘Like Crickets’: Sen. Blackburn Slams Complete Democratic Silence On Violence Against Businesses)
“They could see that he was neither mentally or physically able to do the job. So, therefore, they felt like it was somebody else running the show. And now we know indeed there was that cabal behind the curtain that was actually calling the shots, making the decisions, and somebody was in charge of the autopen,” Blackburn said.
The House Oversight Committee previously said that four Biden administration aides have agreed to scheduled and transcribed interviews. These interviews mark a key development in Chairman James Comer’s investigation into claims of a cover-up regarding Biden’s cognitive decline during his term as president.
