Reported layoffs coming

A wave of layoffs will be coming this summer for Illinois workers.

According to data from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, hundreds of layoffs will occur at a half-dozen companies around northern Illinois over the summer. The layoffs came to light under terms of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies with more than 75 employees to provide 60 days or more of notice for planned layoffs.

According to the Peoria Journal-Star, nearly 2,100 employees will be laid off at 14 businesses in Illinois in the coming weeks.

ICE activities expected in Chicago

The federal government has prepped Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactical teams for deployment to Chicago.

According to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office, federal agents were told they have 48 hours to “stand by and be ready to deploy.”

Earlier, Chicago police said that more than 15 people were taken into custody during a Tuesday evening protest against ICE activity. In total, 17 people were taken into custody.
