Jason Isaacs Champions Tom Felton Playing Draco Malfoy Again, Gives His Blessing to New Lucius Malfoy Actor Johnny Flynn: ‘I Can’t Wait to See What He Comes Up With’

It’s an exciting time to be a “Harry Potter” fan amid casting news for HBO’s upcoming series adaptation and the surprise reveal that original Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton will be reprising the role in Broadway’s “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” One person who is ecstatic about it all is Jason Isaacs, who starred as Lucius Malfoy in the film franchise beginning with 2002’s “Chamber of Secrets.” Isaacs took to social media to champion the return of his movie offspring (aka Felton as Draco).

“Can’t wait, son. That’ll be me in the front row with something in my eye,” Isaacs wrote on Instagram after news broke about Felton playing Draco again. He later added on X: “Tickets booked for November.”

Felton will star as Draco on Broadway for 19 weeks beginning Nov. 11. He told Variety on the Tony Awards red carpet: “The most exciting part is to do it live. It took nine months, more or less, to shoot a film, and this is all compact. This is all reimagined into a very loving, new type of story. And I get to be a dad, which is really fun.”

But there’s also a new Draco in town, as newcomer Lox Pratt will play the “Harry Potter” character in HBO’s television series. Johnny Flynn, who co-starred with Isaacs in the 2021 historical war drama “Operation Mincemeat, is taking over the role of Lucius Malfoy. Isaacs gave Flynn his enthusiastic blessing on social media.

“A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too,” Isaacs wrote on X. “Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…”

Isaacs added in an Instagram video: “It’s sensational news for ‘Harry Potter’ fans, of which I am. Johnny is a brilliant actor. We did a film called ‘Operation Mincemeat’ together and I adored him, as you will too when you see him in the show. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Johnny, if you ever watch this, enjoy yourself and top tip: Watch out for those elves, those pointy-eared backstabbing little bastards! Have fun. I’ll see you in Hogwarts.”
