Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters claimed Monday that “no violence” took place in Los Angeles, despite footage showing cars being set on fire and at least one attack on federal agents.

President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to deploy Saturday as riots continued in Los Angeles following a raid by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a Home Depot. Waters took issue with a characterization by Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McConnell that violence was increasing. “Well, I was surprised at the way that the police chief was describing all of this,” Waters told “Situation Room” co-host Wolf Blitzer. “There had been no violence where anybody that was protesting hit anybody, shot anybody, threatened anybody. Nothing had happened. And so he doesn’t know what to do, probably, because this is a sanctuary city, and the police don’t have the authority. All that he’s got to do is work with the governor.”

During a Sunday press conference, McConnell outlined how his officers were being attacked, ABC7.com reported.

“Tonight we had individuals out there shooting commercial-grade fireworks at our officers that can kill you,” McDonnell told reporters.

Rioters vandalized at least five self-diving vehicles, setting two of them on fire, ABC7.com reported.

Video posted to social media showed an individual wearing a motorcycle helmet throwing rocks at the windshields of vehicles containing ICE agents. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to that person’s arrest.

Journalist Andy Ngo posted video of police cars damaged during the rioting early Monday morning.

Upon taking office on Jan. 20, Trump issued several executive orders to address illegal immigration, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations. Border czar Tom Homan told reporters during a May 30 press gaggle that assaults on ICE agents are increasing and that the “doxxing” of agents reached “an all-time high.”

Resistance to ICE operations to arrest illegal immigrants has also included a Milwaukee judge who allegedly helped an illegal immigrant briefly evade ICE agents sent to arrest him and Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell of Nashville releasing the names of ICE agents involved in a crackdown on illegal immigrants in the city.
