Power grid workshops set

The Illinois Commerce Commission is encouraging the public and community organizations to join in the state’s ongoing planning for a reliable power grid at a set of community workshops this June.

The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act requires that Ameren and ComEd, the state’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, file grid plans that accelerate progress toward Illinois’ clean energy goals, outline system investments, and hold the companies accountable for their performance.

The first workshop will take place Thursday, June 12 in Decatur.

Pet preparedness for disasters

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is reminding Illinoisans that June is Pet Preparedness Month.

A survey by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals indicated that while 83% of pet owners live in an area impacted by disasters, fewer than half have a preparedness plan.

Officials said a recent photo of you and your pet will be key if you are separated and want to be reunited.

Alleged cologne thief charged again

A Downers Grove man is facing new charges after allegedly stealing cologne from an Oak Brook Macy’s shortly after leaving jail.

Authorities said Eric Hart, 60, was in jail for stealing cologne the day before. Hart allegedly entered the store after getting out of jail and stole four cologne boxes valued at over $500, authorities said.
