President Donald Trump is planning to either sell or give away his Tesla over his online feud with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, White House officials said on Friday.
Trump purchased a red Tesla Model S from Musk on the White House lawn on March 11 that is used by White House staff. The president bought the Tesla to show his support for Musk and stand in solidarity with his company as left-wing protesters vandalized vehicles, charging stations and dealerships across the U.S. over their disdain for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The Tesla is currently still parked outside of the West Wing. Trump said at the time of the purchase that Musk has been “treated very unfairly” and that he should not be “penalized for being a patriot.” (RELATED: Trump Accuses Elon Musk Of ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’)
Trump and Musk’s relationship has since turned sour, particularly as Musk has expressed opposition toward the “big, beautiful bill” that the president strongly supports. White House insiders told the Daily Caller on Thursday that the administration’s snubbing of Musk’s pick to lead NASA was the “final straw” for the Tesla CEO, prompting him to leave the administration and even call for Trump’s impeachment.
A senior congressional source also told the Caller that Musk directly asked House Speaker Mike Johnson to include electric vehicle tax credits in the bill.
Musk wrote in an X post on Tuesday that the spending package backed by Trump is a “disgusting abomination” and that any Republican who voted in favor of it fully knows they did wrong. He then stated that Trump should be replaced by Vice President J.D. Vance and that his now-former boss is in the Epstein Files.
Trump said during a Thursday Oval Office press conference that he is “disappointed” in Musk for turning on him over the legislation.
