“Holidays like Labor Day often create hectic airport experiences, and that increased demand typically means higher prices,” said Laura Lindsay, a Skyscanner global travel trends expert. “Travelers who shop around and compare will still find good deals, even when demand is high.”

GOBankingRates compiled a list of U.S. cities where you can score flights (and last-minute summer getaways) for under $100.

Flexible Options

One thing to keep in mind is that you may need to be flexible when booking last-minute summer travel to score the best prices.

“It doesn’t always pay to be loyal to one airline or your home airport, especially on major holidays,” Lindsay said. “You’re much more likely to find better deals and smaller crowds when you’re able to be flexible. Those that are able to fly in or out on different days or from a few different airports will have the best prices available to them.”

You may find much better last-minute deals for the Labor Day weekend if you’re willing to leave on Thursday and return on Tuesday. Per Lindsay, flying out a day early or extending the trip a day could make a big difference.

Lodging Discounts

What about finding last-minute summer travel deals on places to stay? According to data from VRBO, Florida is among the states where travelers can find bargains before the calendar turns to fall. Also, based on the data from VRBO, other states with last-minute summer travel deals that make traveling on the fly worth it include Hawaii, North Carolina and South Carolina.
