It’s time to stop binge-watching The Office on repeat and check out something new.

This August, your favorite streaming platforms from across the web are adding a delightfully engrossing mix of comedy and drama.

From a historical epic starring Jason Momoa to an animated movie that’s definitely not for kids to the return of Jenna Ortega‘s Wednesday Addams, you can definitely expect the unexpected this month.

Watch With Us takes you through the shows and movies you don’t want to miss on Apple TV+, Netflix and Hulu in August 2025.

‘Chief of War’ (Now Streaming)

This new series starring Jason Momoa is getting rave reviews. It’s a historical epic that Momoa cowrote and codirected about a member of the Hawaiian royal family attempting to fight back against colonization.

Chief of War is packed not just with thrilling action sequences, but also with thoughtful character work and interesting questions about 18th-century politics and colonialism. If you’re a fan of sweeping period dramas with a powerful cultural perspective, this one is not to be missed.

10 Great New Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Hulu and More

‘Wednesday’ Season 2, Part 1 (Now Streaming)

You don’t need to be full of woe anymore, because Wednesday is back! The delightfully macabre teen mystery series starring Jenna Ortega releases the first part of its sophomore season on August 6. This season promises we’ll see even more of the classic Addams family characters like Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán).

But Wednesday is still focusing on its original characters at Nevermore Academy, like Enid the werewolf (Emma Myers) and new Nevermore Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi). More creepy, kooky mysteries await this season, so what are you waiting for?

Watch Wednesday season 2, part 1 on Netflix now.

‘Fixed’ (August 13)

Genndy Tartakovsky is known for his influential animated series like Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory. Fixed is definitely not in the same vein. It’s an animated movie about a dog (Adam Devine) who learns he’s going to be neutered in the morning.

Alongside his canine friends, he embarks on a wild night of doggy madness and debauchery. It looks disturbingly, hilariously raunchy and features a talented voice cast, including Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn and Fred Armisen (to name a few). If you’re a fan of Sausage Party-style humor, Fixed might just hit the spot.

Watch Fixed on Netflix on August 13.

What’s New on Hulu in August 2025: ‘Alien: Earth,’ ‘The Monkey,’ ‘King of the Hill’ and More

‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox’ (August 20)

Grace Van Patten of Tell Me Lies stars as Amanda Knox in this dramatized retelling of how she was wrongfully convicted of the murder of her roommate. Knox herself is an executive producer of this limited series, ensuring it would faithfully capture her experiences — from her arrival in Italy for a study abroad program to her brutal interrogation by the local police and her eventual exoneration.

It’s a gripping and empathetic look at how quickly lives can be turned upside down by a rush to judgment.

‘Long Story Short’ (August 22)

The creator of Bojack Horseman returns with another adult animated series, Long Story Short. No talking animals this time — this series centers on an ordinary human family.

Jumping through the years, the show doesn’t go in chronological order — instead, it follows the Schwooper siblings from childhood to adulthood and back again, chronicling their triumphs, disappointments, joys, and compromises. Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson stars alongside Paul Reiser, Max Greenfield and many more comedy faves.
