Eye Exams and Eyeglasses

Sam’s Club Optical offers prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. If you haven’t already, it’s also a great place to get an eye exam through independent doctors of optometry.

According to Clark.com, an eye exam costs around $104 (depending on where you live), and frames sell for as low as $59. While you may be able to find cheaper prices at online retailers, Clark.com pointed out that it likely beats Target Optical and even Costco.

Sam’s Club Optical also runs deals on eyeglasses, so you may be able to save even more.

Health Devices and Mobility Aids

With age often come health and mobility challenges. According to CNBC’s August 2024 Your Money retirement survey, 31% of current retirees say declining health or illness is their biggest worry. Dealing with healthcare costs was the second biggest concern.

Sam’s Club sells a variety of smart health devices to track your heart rate, fitness and blood pressure, as well as mobility aids, including reclining chairs, walkers, toilet safety rails, walking canes and more.

Ergonomic Mattress

An ergonomic mattress can be expensive, but considering most people spend one-third of their lives in bed, it’s a good investment, Forbes reported. Sam’s Club sells memory foam and hybrid mattresses at varying prices. Currently, the store is running deals on Tempur-Pedic mattresses, between $400 and $600 off, until Sept. 9.

Home Security

Home security systems aren’t always cheap, but the alternative of worrying about your home and safety every night is more costly. Older adults are often an easy target for home invasions, but a security system can provide an extra layer of protection without a contract.

Fitness Gear

Health and fitness should be a top priority in retirement. Keeping an active lifestyle can help lower the risk of age-related conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and strokes, build strength and improve mobility, CNN reported.

Some fitness equipment costs hundreds (and even thousands) of dollars, but Sam’s Club also sells equipment that’s affordable and practical enough to use at home every day.
