48 Hobbies for Couples

1. Cleaning

Cleaning can be an excellent way to tidy up your living space (especially if you live together) while doing something from which you can see tangible results. Although dividing the tasks can make for an effective cleaning experience, try to stay in the room for some extra bonding time. And blast music to have impromptu dance parties while moving around your space!

2. Dancing

Whether you attend a dance class or dance together at home, “movement and music help release stress and promote physical closeness and shared joy,” says Marcus.

3. Writing

Open up some notebooks and get those creative juices flowing with some writing sessions. Start with some creative writing before delving into poetry and everything in between. After your sessions, take some time to read and workshop your work aloud to your partner.

4. Playing instruments

Playing instruments can be a great way to spend time with your partner while keeping your minds sharp. Pick an instrument you and your partner have no experience with for a completely new (and exciting) experience.

5. Volunteering

Select your favorite charity, a local one (or both), and get volunteering.

“Giving back as a couple builds compassion, connection and a sense of shared values,” says Marcus.

6. Traveling

Traveling can be a great way to see the world while enjoying new experiences with your partner. Whether you keep it local and explore your neighborhood or book airline tickets, either way, you will make new memories together.

7. Running

What’s better than running by yourself? Running with your partner. Stick to your local trails or research some new ones you can visit to get your hearts pumping.

8. Journaling

This might not seem like an obvious hobby for couples at first, but mindfulness can help bring you and your partner closer together. Set aside a time during which you both can tap into your thoughts and bring them to the page–you can even play some of your favorite relaxing music and/or candles to elevate your journaling atmosphere.

9. Bicycling

Maybe you and your partner are more cyclists than walkers or runners. If that’s the case, plan to attend some cycling classes or bike a couple of miles together when you’re both free.

10. Board games

From CATAN to Scrabble, playing board games allows for an opportunity to connect with your partner while stimulating your brains.

“These invite playful competition, teamwork and lighthearted conversation,” says Marcus.

11. Gardening

We can’t think of much else more rewarding than growing some plants or produce, and knowing that you did that by yourself (or in this case, with your partner).

“Nurturing something together builds patience, shared responsibility and peace,” says Marcus.

12. Scrapbooking

Whether you’ve collected an item from every date you’ve been on or are photo fiends, scrapbooking can be a great way to reminisce about your time together as a couple while creating something tangible. You can also use your shared scrapbooking time to start brainstorming new ways to connect (and collect) for future scrapbooking sessions.

13. Reading

Choose a different book that you can both read every week, month or on whatever cadence works for you.

“Reading the same book creates space for emotional intimacy, new perspectives, and deeper conversations,” says Marcus.

14. Baking

Indulge your sweet tooth with some baking sessions. From cookies to brownies, baking can be a great way to collaborate with your partner and enjoy a sweet treat at the end.

15. Cooking

Love trying new recipes together? Why not try cooking your own versions together instead of going out to eat? Not only will you both know what you’re putting in your food, but cooking it together can be a great way to connect.

“Prepping a new recipe as a team encourages communication, collaboration and a sense of accomplishment,” says Marcus.

16. Sewing or crocheting

Sewing or crocheting can be a good hobby if you want to use your leisure time to slow down. While you likely won’t finish your creation in one session, you can make this hobby a project you and your partner work on together over time.

17. Painting

You and your partner don’t need to be Picasso-level to enjoy the art of painting. It doesn’t matter whether you use acrylic paint or watercolor as long as you’re both having fun.

18. Movie watching

Love a good movie? Watching movies is a great way to unwind and relax with your partner. You can keep things simple and rewatch your favorites for a relaxing experience, or opt to try a new movie genre with each flick session as a way of opening your minds to new creative experiences.

19. Coloring

Grab some coloring books and your coloring utensils of choice and get to work. Challenge yourselves to keep your art inside the lines for the best results—you’ll be glad you did.

20. Origami

Origami can be a great way to learn about a new culture while creating some beautiful artwork—just make sure to have the proper Origami paper in hand before getting started for the best possible results.

21. Singing

You don’t have to be a good singer to enjoy a duet with your partner. Do some karaoke together or put on some music and sing along—either way, it will be fun to belt out some notes together.

22. Candle-making

This hobby may require you to head to the store or do some online shopping to purchase some wax and wicks (if you don’t already have them). You’ll have fun making them, and your house will smell good too.

23. Yoga

Yoga can be a great way for you and your partner to relax while fitting some low-impact exercise into your busy schedule. Freestyle some moves on a yoga mat, or watch a YouTube video and follow along together during each session.

24. Meditating

Sometimes life can feel so busy that you don’t always have the time (or make the time) to reflect on your relationship or what’s going on around you. Order yourselves a Tibetan Singing Bowl, which you can use to guide your meditation time.

Fun Hobbies for Couples

25. Trying new restaurants

Whether you want to taste the flavors offered in your local restaurants or branch out to distant cities, trying new restaurants is an effective way to nourish yourselves while experiencing something new.

“Exploring new flavors and atmospheres together keeps the relationship feeling fresh and exciting,” says Marcus.

26. Working out

Hit the gym or do a home workout together when you can.

“Working out boosts endorphins, accountability, and healthy motivation as a team,” says Marcus.

27. DIY home projects

Although home projects can sometimes feel like work, they don’t have to. Whether you build a new birdhouse to sit outside your home or simply put the photos in frames, “building something tangible strengthens collaboration and trust,” says Marcus.

28. Pottery

Doing pottery together will spark your creativity and provide you with something tangible to take home at the end that can serve as a reminder of the time shared.

29. Bird-watching

With so many birds out there, bird-watching can be a long-term hobby for you and your partner. And there are many places you can bird-watch!

30. Photography

Taking photos can be a great way to brush up on your art skills while preserving memories. Take a class together or simply play around with the different settings on your cameras while taking pictures of one another.

31. Roller skating

Visit a nearby roller rink or take your skates onto the sidewalk and let the good times roll! Don’t forget to wear your helmets and some knee and elbow pads.

32. Backpacking

Backpacking can be a challenge for you both physically and mentally. It’s a good time to rely on each other for support and show yourselves that anything is possible when you work together as a team.

33. Swimming

Jump in the pool or do some laps at your pool, a nearby pool, beach or any body of water that is closest to you (and safe to swim).

34. Surfing

Catch some waves at your local beach or take some surfing lessons together for an exhilarating experience.

35. Fishing

This can be a tenta-cool hobby that can help you both practice some patience.

36. Stargazing

Lay out a blanket and look up at night. You can simply enjoy your views or make it a challenge to see who can spot the most stars.

37. Video games

Find a video game you both enjoy and play it together. Switch things up by making it a goal to work together to unlock new levels instead of playing against each other.

38. Content creation

If your goal is to be the next couple of content creators, all it takes is one post to get you started. Plan a time that works for you to schedule and create your content whether that be film, photos or text—you’ll never know what might happen unless you try.

39. Archery

If you and your partner are working on your patience and concentration (which might have become shorter from scrolling on TikTok), archery can help. Head to an indoor or outdoor range near you and sign up for a beginner’s class (if you’ve never done it before), or reserve a section for you both when you’re free.

40. Axe-throwing

As long as you’re in a controlled environment, axe-throwing can be a great way to blow off some steam while getting in some exercise. Although you might have to stand away from your partner while they’re throwing their axes, you can be standing nearby to cheer them on as they aim for the bullseye.

41. Wood or soap carving

Spend time carving wood or soap together. You’ll be surprised by what you can create from these two materials.

42. Visiting theme parks

Although it may be a more costly hobby, visiting theme parks is a fun way to escape reality and enjoy some quality time together. Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe may be some of the more popular theme parks in the United States, but don’t be afraid to visit some of your local ones too.

43. Hiking

Exploring via hiking can be a great way to connect with nature and your partner. Choose different trails for each hike to broaden your experiences (and scenery).

44. Boating

Take your boat (or a rental) out on the nearest permitted body of water for a day filled with waves.

45. Canoeing

Canoeing is a great hobby for couples because teamwork is often involved to get your boat to move. Conduct some research about where you’ll be paddling and the water type before you get started for the most pleasant (and safe) canoeing experience.

46. Camping

Heading into nature for a night of camping (or glamping) can help you unwind and take your mind off the stresses of ordinary life. Making some s’mores together regularly can be pretty fun (and tasty) too.

47. Attending concerts

Check the concert schedule for the local venues in your area and plan a concert date for whenever you can (and budget allows). Although you can buy tickets for your favorite artists, seeing a rising star or local musician can be a great way to support your community and learn a thing or two about another type of genre you may not normally listen to.

48. Rock climbing

There’s no better feeling than climbing a mountain (or some rocks) and making it to the top. Visiting an indoor rock climbing gym can provide you and your partner with some extra support (and safety), especially if you’re new to the sport.
