American League Rookie of the Year 2025

What to know: Cam Smith’s ascension to the top of the AL ROY oddsboard was swift, just like his ascension to the big leagues for the Astros. The Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez — nicknamed “The Martian” — opened as the favorite, but during Spring Training, Smith had four home runs, 13 hits, 11 RBIs and eight runs in 38 at-bats. The 22-year-old will now start in right field for Houston to open the season.

National League Rookie of the Year 2025

What to know: Roki Sasaki joining the Dodgers was arguably the biggest free-agent news of the offseason. Sasaki, 23, was a star in Japan’s top league (Nippon Professional Baseball) over the past few years, pitching a perfect game in April 2022 and tying Shohei Ohtani for the fastest pitch in NPB history in April 2023. MLB.com named him the top prospect in baseball heading into the 2025 campaign. Sasaki started the second game of the Tokyo Series against the Cubs. In three innings, he had three strikeouts, giving up one hit and one earned run.
