“Her hair is so synonymous with her personality, and since we didn’t plan any typical hen games or gimmicks, this felt like a funny and unexpected way to bring some extra joy to the day,” says Tiah Slattery, who came up with the idea
A bride was surprised by 20 doppelgängers.
On May 31 in Surrey, England, friends of bride-to-be Lucy Edgerley threw her a hen do, which is a pre-wedding celebration similar to a bachelorette party and is especially popular in the United Kingdom. When Edgerley, 29, walked over to her group of partygoers, she expected cocktails and creative decor — but nothing prepared her for the sight of 20 blonde bobbed look-alikes beaming back at her.
Edgerley is known for her blonde, shoulder-length hair. So, her friend Tiah Slattery, 29, decided to pay tribute to the personal detail by ordering blonde bob wigs from AliExpress for everyone.
“We wanted to find a fun way to make the hen feel really personal to Lucy — and what’s more iconic than her signature blonde bob?” Slattery tells PEOPLE. “Her hair is so synonymous with her personality, and since we didn’t plan any typical hen games or gimmicks, this felt like a funny and unexpected way to bring some extra joy to the day.”

Lucy Edgerley’s shocked and confused reaction
As seen in a viral video of Edgerley’s reaction posted on TikTok on June 4, the bride was totally surprised. Wearing a white minidress, Edgerley walked across a field of grass in kitten heels toward her friends. She stopped in her tracks at the sight of the women in wigs. First, she was just confused. Then, she doubled over in laughter, nearly spilling her glass of wine.
The hilarious video has accumulated 7.8 million views and 1.7 million likes. The clip was posted to “Out of My Mind” by B.o.B, featuring Nicki Minaj. The song includes the lyric, “You know that I’m known for the bob.”
“Lucy was in complete shock (and slightly wine-drunk), which made it even funnier,” Slattery says. “She was totally confused at first but loved it and, of course, she ended up being the star of the night.”

After enjoying a long catered lunch from private chef Sophie Crowther, also known as Sophie’s Munch, followed by cocktails, the 20 women — who were a mix of the bride’s friends, siblings and future in-laws — changed into party clothes and wigs. They then made their reveal outside “Club Cox,” the barn-turned-nightclub named after Edgerley’s soon-to-be new last name.
“We kept the wig surprise a secret for about two months,” Slattery explains, noting that she hid all the wigs at her house. “It was so hard not to spill the secret, especially as we were nervous about pulling it off without Lucy catching on beforehand!”
Luckily, the plan went off without a hitch.

“It was SO much fun,” she says. “The next morning we were still laughing seeing where all the wigs had ended up around the house. It made for such brilliant memories.”
