Dreamy decadence was in the air and on the runway at Ralph Lauren’s fall/winter 2025 show, where the front row was packed full of women who oozed confidence, including rising star Julia Schlaepfer, who plays the fierce and free-thinking Alexandra Dutton on Paramount+’s 1923. Lauren, America’s maestro of fashion, showcased his latest collection in an ornate gallery space in downtown New York, where models sauntered down a marble staircase wearing look after look that left us feeling inspired. One simply couldn’t help but want to refresh their fall wardrobes after seeing his offering of ultra-glamorous and undeniably wearable western fashion.

Frilled collared shirts pinned with broaches at the neck felt fresh, while seductive suede outerwear made us yearn for cooler weather. To close out the show, elegant gowns, along with snazzy suits, were offered as extravagant evening wear options. Lauren’s 47-piece collection was inspired by the notion of “The Modern Romantics,” which, in his vision, meant women dressed with a self-assured sensibility and stylish flair.

Schlaepfer’s Ralph Lauren look.
While Schlaepfer, a Montana native, dresses mainly in frontier fashion on the show, off-screen, she has consistently wowed in chic, sophisticated outfits that have make her a standout at any and every fashion event she attends.
“These events are such a joyful celebration of pure creativity” she tells InStyle. “How lucky and exciting [is it] that we get to witness these new creations come to life. I have dreamed about attending these events since I was a kid, so I am truly just grateful to be able to witness these moments in fashion history.”

Schlaepfer in denim and leather.
For her first Ralph Lauren show, Schlaepfer exuded modern, romantic American style in a black leather bomber jacket worn over a light-wash Canadian tuxedo combo. Schlaepfer accessorized with pointy-toed black Ralph Lauren pumps, brilliant diamond jewelry, and a calfskin crossbody bag. Her paired-back yet radiant glam gave the overall look the perfect finishing touch.
“Effortless, timeless, an elegant strength—the classic woman,” is how she describes the Ralph Lauren brand, which is funny and fitting because that is precisely how we would describe Schlaepfer’s irresistible allure.

Western style meets city chic.
Below, Schlaepfer gives InStyle a behind-the-scenes look at her styling process while dishing on fashion, Top Gun, and Chappell Roan.
Julia Schlaepfer’ Ralph Lauren Look
“This look felt like such a perfect marriage between my everyday style and the true essence of Ralph Lauren,” she says. “I wear denim on denim almost every day when I’m home in Montana. You truly cannot go wrong with that combo. I also have a real jacket addiction. I found a vintage leather RL coat in a Brooklyn thrift store a few years ago and I wear it every single day, so this leather bomber has me drooling.
Throughout the years, you also see Ralph himself wearing this style leather jacket and a great pair of blue jeans consistently. It’s crisp. It stands the test of time. It is so classic and effortless. It’s hot!”

The Jewelry and Accessories
“The jewelry is by Repossi and Eva Fehren. So stunning, simple, with a little bit of edge,” she says. “The RL pumps are a welcome alternative to my worn-out cowboy boots, and the purse is one I feel I could take with me anywhere!”

Her Personal Style
“My style is constantly changing. I love for my clothes to reflect how I’m feeling on any given day at any given moment, even if that means a mid-day outfit change or two…or three. I think that’s the beauty of fashion! It is such a creative medium and yet another beautiful way to express ourselves,” she says. “Sometimes I’ll be in head-to-toe sequins, sometimes I’ll be in an oversized T-shirt with holes worn through it. A lot of denim. I love to experiment with patterns and colors. A combination of carefree and classic.”

The Icons Who Inspire Her
“Thelma and Louise, Grace Kelly, Dale Evans, and Carrie Bradshaw. I think Carrie resonates with so many people because she is having fun. Isn’t that what fashion is all about?”
Her Getting-Ready Playlist
“Anything Chappell Roan or Sabrina Carpenter forever and always,” she says. “I have also been absolutely enchanted by Role Model’s ‘Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’ and Pearl’s ‘No Man.’ And of course, we have to whip out country music radio sometimes!”

Her Glam Team
“Linda Hay did makeup and Tim Nolan was on hair! They are incredible! Our inspo today was the original 1986 Top Gun—specifically Kelly Mcgillis, who plays Charlie. What an icon,” Schlaepfer says. “Linda kept the skin super glowy and natural with a slight ’80s edge on the eye/lip. Tim tamed my natural curls into something effortless and sexy. They basically turned me into Kelly herself, which was the goal! They both made me feel like the most beautiful version of myself.”

Her Favorite Beauty Products
“Anything Fenty I will be buying. My tried and true every day lip liner is Love Trap by Charlotte Tilbury. And freckle pens! I love a fake freckle, especially for summer.”

How She Unwinds After a Busy Day
“If I’m home in Montana, I’ll sit on my porch and have a glass of wine and enjoy the view. If I’m in NYC after a day like today, I love to catch up with my close friends in town if I have the energy! If not, cozying up with a good TV show. The glass of wine is present in all of these scenarios.”

Her After-Show Plans
“The sunshine is out in New York and all I know is that it seems just about time to find that glass of wine I was talking about earlier.”
