11 Players Who Are Turning Heads at the Patriots Training Camp

6 Min Read

Day 6 of Patriots training camp had a little bit of everything—rookies stepping up, veterans adjusting, and a few unexpected names making waves. With plenty of action in 1-on-1s and 11-on-11s, these players stood out for the right (and occasionally wrong) reasons.

The third-year receiver snagged a fastball from Drake Maye for a touchdown. He was once considered a roster bubble guy, but is now looking more like a potential WR3. After battling injuries and inconsistency early in his career, he’s finally flashing the talent that made him a sixth-round steal in 2023.

Jared Wilson, Center

Wilson dominated his 1-on-1 drills against Christian Barmore and Milton Williams. He also took snaps at both guard and center without any fumbling issues, which had been a problem in earlier practices. Considering that Garrett Bradbury is banged up, Wilson’s versatility pushes him into legitimate starting center discussions.

Javon Baker, Wide Receiver

After a quiet start to camp, the second-year wideout starts to show up when it counts. He went up and over cornerback Marcellas Dial in the back-left corner of the end zone by hauling in an underthrown touchdown from Joshua Dobbs.

Will Campbell, Offensive Tackle

Campbell had a bounce-back day after a shaky Monday. He held his own in reps against K’Lavon Chaisson and even stuffed Keion White during an 11-on-11 snap. Although White beat him once around the edge, Campbell’s physicality in the run game stood out.

Kyle Williams, Wide Receiver

It was an up-and-down day for the rookie, but Williams stayed active in red-zone drills with the starters. He dropped one pass and missed a block that drew some colorful language from Mike Vrabel. Then he turned around and caught a touchdown in the end zone’s back corner.

Milton Williams, Defensive Tackle

Williams looked disruptive sometimes, especially when he blew past Cole Strange for a pressure up the middle. Though he lost a rep to Jared Wilson earlier in 1-on-1s, the free-agent signing showed why the Patriots brought him in. His pass-rushing skills are evident, but his run-stopping still needs work.

Andy Borregales, Kicker

The rookie kicker went a perfect 6-for-6 on field goals, with distances ranging from 30 to 50 yards. He struggled earlier in camp but rebounded at the right time, especially with Parker Romo watching from the sideline. Taken in the sixth round out of Miami, Borregales has a strong leg and a consistent draw.

Drake Maye, Quarterback

Maye’s day was a mixed bag—accurate on some throws, off-target on others. He delivered a bucket-touchdown to Kyle Williams and a well-placed ball to DeMario Douglas, but also overthrew a couple and fumbled a snap from Bradbury. Still, it was the first day with designed runs, option plays, and more red-zone decision-making.

Isaiah Iton, Defensive Tackle

Iton doesn’t get many headlines, but he earned a few Tuesday by stuffing two inside runs during team drills. He held firm against both Jared Wilson and Cole Strange. While not flashy, he made the kind of plays that defensive line coaches love: steady and productive.

Bradyn Swinson, Linebacker

For now, he’s behind Chaisson on the depth chart, but Tuesday’s performance might earn him more meaningful looks. Swinson stood out during backup reps. He held the edge to wrap up running back Trayveon Williams and followed it up by pushing back Jack Conley for a quarterback pressure.

DeMario Douglas, Wide Receiver

Douglas caught a well-placed throw from Maye in the front corner of the end zone, then celebrated with a dance that got the crowd going. Heading into his third season, he’s drawing praise for his consistency, something this wide receiver room has lacked in past years.

DJ James, Cornerback

With Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis sidelined, James took full advantage. He broke up a pass in 2-on-2 drills and deflected another intended for Javon Baker. He’s still learning the defense, but if injuries continue in the secondary, he might sneak his way into the conversation for a roster spot.

Garrett Bradbury, Center

Bradbury’s day ended on a down note with an injury that forced him to limp off late in practice. Before that, he struggled in protection and had a fumbled snap with Maye. The former first-round pick signed with hopes of anchoring the line, but his shaky performance is opening the door for Jared Wilson.

Hunter Henry, Tight End (and Quarterback)

Yes, Hunter Henry took reps at quarterback. It wasn’t just for fun—he’s reportedly the emergency QB behind Maye and Dobbs. Henry, who’s already a key figure in the Patriots’ 12-personnel looks, looked sharp in team drills and caught a few balls as well.

Cole Strange, Guard

Strange has yet to put a firm grip on the left guard spot. On Tuesday, he was beaten inside by Milton Williams and struggled to create movement in the run game. Though he’s still working back from injury, the urgency to perform is growing.
