Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a helpful tool to complete tasks, but its growth poses a threat to the jobs of many Americans. At least, that’s what the headlines continue to say. Industry experts are making similar statements, too.

“AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs, and spike unemployment to 10-20% in the next one to five years,” said Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic in an interview with Axios in May.
It remains to be seen whether the fear will materialize into reality. For Americans concerned with job security, diversifying yourself is key. Adaptability and maintaining an array of complementary skills should help Americans avoid job loss to AI. You can achieve this by earning certifications, identifying ways to gain firsthand experience and creating a portfolio to showcase your work.
Targeting the right industry will also help Americans stave off AI-induced job losses. Thankfully, some of those industries don’t require a college degree, and some pay over $100,000 annually, otherwise known as new-collar jobs. In a recent study, Resume Genius identified the top jobs paying over $100,000 that have relative shelter from the rise of AI.
All of the jobs are skills-driven. “New-collar jobs are jobs that don’t rely on physical labor (like many blue-collar jobs), but also don’t require a college degree (like the majority of white-collar jobs). These jobs are skills-driven, where learning happens on the job and adaptability matters just as much as credentials,” said Eva Chan, Career Expert at Resume Genius.
These jobs all have a median salary of over $100,000, no four-year degree requirement, minimal physical labor, remote or hybrid availability and less than a 50% risk of being replaced by AI.
